Mercer has already conducted a beta launch of select products using Mercer Job Library. Clients can use the beta release available in Mercer WIN to become familiar with the new functionality of Mercer Job Library. From early 2018, data collection kits will be based on the Mercer Job Library, and survey results released in 2018 will be in Mercer Job Library format.
In the initial launch, many of Mercer’s survey products will be underpinned by Mercer Job Library. View the complete list of surveys:
Yes. Our commitment is to maintain data access for our clients for 3 years after publication date, using the job catalog as originally published.
Mercer Job Library has identified the relationships between Jobs and set up two additional types of compensation reporting units – Core Jobs and Mercer Combined Jobs. These are additional data sets reported in our surveys based on the combination of related sets of underlying Jobs. These features are useful in the following situations:
Core Job and Mercer Combined Job are two new additional data sets reported in our surveys. The more specialized Job data is still available; however, with the relationships between Jobs well defined, Mercer will aggregate data to create these two new reporting units. Core Jobs aggregate all data for the Jobs within a Sub-Family. Mercer will also set up Mercer Combined Jobs consisting of any reasonable combination of Jobs. This is another way to serve up more data to you, without forcing you to identify realistic combinations and do the work of combining jobs in WIN.
Mercer’s compensation surveys already included thousands of jobs across hundreds of markets and dozens of industries. We studied our existing database of jobs, researched current trends in job families and industry labor markets, and partnered with our consulting colleagues to determine the appropriate relationships between jobs.
Mercer Job Library will use the current Mercer Universal Position Coding System (MUPCS) Career Streams and Levels, with the addition of two new Executive Levels to better reflect the hierarchies found in some markets. The Career Stream Level descriptions have been refreshed, and clients are now able to match to more Levels during data submission.
Yes! While we’re moving to a single, integrated catalog to allow easier analysis across products, we are maintaining those unique industry jobs. They’ve simply been arranged to align with related jobs found in other industries, allowing those data points to be included – where relevant – in our new Core Jobs and Mercer Combined Jobs.
A beta is a pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to try under real conditions. The Mercer Job Library beta is a preview of the new aspects of Mercer’s compensation survey offerings coming in 2018. All WIN Core users have access to a beta survey in Mercer WIN, where they can become familiar with Mercer Job Library and the new WIN functionality, ahead of 2018 results delivery.
No. The beta compensation results are not intended for use in any compensation decisions. Upon entering the beta, you will be required to agree that you will not use the data in any decisions. All survey purchases will be provided in the current format for 2017 and should be used as in the past. The purpose of the beta is to provide a preview of the new features of Mercer Job Library, as well as the Mercer WIN changes that will allow you to take full advantage of those new features.
You will receive your data collection kit as usual, including a questionnaire and job matching tool. If you have participated in the 2017 version of the survey, your questionnaire will be prepopulated with your previous matches that are mapped to a new Mercer Job Library job based on Mercer’s careful mapping of old methodology to new. As many job descriptions have been clarified in Mercer Job Library and new jobs appear, you will want to review these mapped jobs and the new job catalog to identify any better and additional matches you would like to make. The job matching tool will look familiar, with the same helpful tools, job matrices, and job descriptions to help in the matching process.
Clients who do not submit data in 2017 will not have a prepopulated questionnaire; however, if you have matched to Mercer jobs in the past, you will have access to those same mapping files to help with your matching to the new Mercer Job Library.
In 2018, your data submission process will be the same as in prior years, but for a smooth transition to Mercer Job Library, Mercer will convert your TRS job codes into Mercer Job Library codes for you. While 2018 will be a transition year – starting with supporting functions moving to the new coding system – technical jobs aren't far behind and will roll out in 2019.
2018 Energy & Mining survey output will be the same as in 2017 and with new output for TRS surveys you’ll benefit from an enhanced jobs lists which includes improved job descriptions, recognizable job codes, and more intuitive results analysis.
A new tab specifically for the Mercer Job Library beta will house all data from Mercer Job Library surveys.
Yes. We will provide year-over-year compensation movement analysis for jobs that are mapped directly between the current Mercer job catalogs and Mercer Job Library. Most current jobs will be mapped to a new Mercer Job Library job. For those jobs that are new or any current jobs that may have been split or merged in the new Mercer Job Library, no trends will be provided until the second year (2019).
Additionally, the regressed Mercer IPE year-over-year data comparisons will still be provided.
For the beta, Mercer has provided enhanced help menus in WIN as well as a how-to guide to help you make the best use of your time exploring beta. For the launch in 2018, Mercer is providing training and support throughout data submission and results provision. This includes prepopulation of your questionnaire with your previous matches mapped to a new Mercer Job Library job.
Mercer is providing training in various forms. While we feel the Mercer WIN enhancements make using the Mercer Job Library results intuitive, we’re also working on training materials to support both data submission and results analysis, 1-page job aides, and short video clips to allow clients to seek the level of support they need, when they need it.
Yes. Mapping tables are available between the current Mercer job catalog and Mercer Job Library. You will be able to use these mapping tables to help you through the transition. Most survey jobs have been mapped to a new Library job; however, many new jobs have been added and a few removed – as part of the update.
Note: Clients who submitted data in 2017 will receive pre-populated questionnaires with suggested new Mercer Job Library matches based on these mapping tables.
