Workforce Metrics includes a set of performance and productivity calculations based on your workforce's demographics, the profile of jobs in your company, and the payroll cost associated with your active and inactive employees. Workforce metrics can give you an indication of your organization's effectiveness on such questions as turnover, revenue/employee, gender equity and diversity, span of control and much more. HR Metrics by contrast are the performance and productivity calculations associated with the effectiveness of the HR Function itself. These tend to focus on key sub-functions within HR where efficiency and effectiveness are readily measured and monitored including recruitment, training and payroll in particular. Benchmarking can apply to ALL types of metrics and is generally understood as the ability to compare oneself or one's own organization to the market.
