approach to calculating expatriate compensation, providing a quick and consistent
way of building expatriate packages. By applying the home country balance sheet
approach, the calculator integrates the comprehensive data and tools included in Global
HRMonitor - Cost-of-living index, Personal tax reports, Spendable income,
Expatriate accommodation costs, Education costs, Quality-of-living allowance and
Foreign Service premiums.

- Marital/family status
- Type of index – Mean to Mean, Efficient, or Convenience
with the option to apply negative index
- Spendable income options – choice of actual national
spending statistics to your company’s own custom values

Optional COL index adjustments - for inflation and
unavailable products in the host location

Calculator output
The calculator generates an Interim Expatriate Compensation report
providing the following information:
- Net home Country salary – gross income minus
hypothetical social security and income taxes, plus family allowances
- Net home country pay – net income broken down by housing costs,
savings, and spendable income
- Cost-of-Living allowance – COL index, corresponding allowance,
and exchange rate used
- Housing allowance – Home and Host housing cost figures and
corresponding housing allowance
- Expatriation premiums – Quality-of-Living allowance and
mobility/foreign service premiums
- Other allowances – education, car, and other allowances
- Total net host country pay – with and without expatriation
premiums and other user defined allowances
